CALMET 99 Simulation Software in Meteorological Education

First Experiences

Application of dynamic simulation models to teach the vorticity equation

Characteristics of the student sample

This experiment is being carried out with three students of the Atmosphere Dynamics I of the Licenciatura de Ciencias Atmosféricas. This is the second course of atmospheric dynamics for that degree.

The software is applied to revise the topic ‘Vorticity equation’. The analysis of this equation is essential for the comprehension of physical systems within different temporal and spatial scales.

The objective of the software employment in this experiment is:

Favoring students to recall the knowledge relative to vorticity acquired during the previous course.

Allowing them to perform a rapid quantitative evaluation of each vorticity equation term:

A. facing different initial conditions.

B. analyzing their relative importance respect to vorticity variations.

Being this experiment under development, no conclusions have been obtained yet.
