Welcome to this simulator exercise!

In this exercise we will simulate weather forecasting using a real life example and data.

The objective of this exercise is to introduce us with summertime forecasting and to demonstrate what we are best at - forecasting the weather and share it.

This 2-hour-exercise consists of ...

  1. Briefing (10 minutes) at “Saturday 18z”. The briefing material you can also find in the Simulator.
  2. Forecasting two and two together (1 h 30 minutes). Clock starts at 22z och stops at 07z, and it runs 5 times faster than in reality (between 03-07z it rund 10 times faster than in reality...).
  3. Preparation of a forecast and communication with customers.
  4. Debriefing.

Exercise:

Your shift will begin at Saturday 22 UTC and finish at Sunday 07 UTC.

18.00 UTC: Take part in the evening briefing

22.00-00.00 UTC: Your shift starts. Learn the system and get acquainted with the weather situation.

00.00-02.00 UTC: Prepare your forecast for 03-06 UTC: draw on the map the areas where you expect a lot of precipitation and how much.

02.00-03.00 UTC: Communication with a customer.

03.00-07.00 UTC: Monitor the development. Keep on updating your forecast if needed.

07.00 UTC: Your shift ends.
