Simulator Exercise for WMO Train the Trainers 2015
In this simulation you take a role being a weather forecaster for Emilia Romagna region in northern Italy (see the map) on a warm spring day. It's noon 12 UTC.

Your task is to monitor the weather and by 13:30 UTC prepare a very short range forecast of severe weather for three hour period 15-18 UTC for Parma and Ferrara (see city locations on the map). Your shift ends at 15 UTC, but you can monitor the situation until 18 UTC, if you so wish, and prepare amendements (optional).

Because of big technical problems in your forecasting office, you are missing 99% of the usual data, but you still need to prepare the forecast. This is the ONLY material you have at your forecaster desk:

  1. Meteosat-9 Satellite images
  2. Some ECMWF NWP model output
  3. An old Mesoscale Convective System Conceptual Model Manual.
  4. A cup of coffee (you need to bring it yourself).

Note: You can choose the clock run either 5 x faster than real (for a normal user), or 10 x faster than real (if you are busy or an experienced with SIMs). Depending on which speed you choose, you will have to issue your first forecast in 9/18 real minutes after clicking at Start Simulator button. Prepare for no interruptions during this time.

Your shift ends in 18/36 real minutes after starting the simulation. If you wish to verify your forecast, you can let the simulation run 15-18 UTC for additional 18/36 real minutes.
